Bob works for an independent oil and gas exploration and production company in Dallas. He presently serves on the board of trustees of Duke University, where he is also co-chair of the advisory council of the Duke Institute of Brain Science. Bob is on the board of the Dallas Theater Center, the Baylor Hospital Foundation and the University of Texas at Dallas Center for Brain Health. He is heavily engaged at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, where he leads weekly Bible Studies. Bob earned his AB from Duke University in 1974, his MA from the School of Advanced International Stuties at Johns Hopkins in 1976 and was a Fulbright Scholar in Bogota, Colombia. He and his wife, Katherine, have three daughters, Sarah, Julia and Caroline.
